The Establishment Board

Monday 03 July 17

Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be working on the appointment of an establishment board for Financial Advice New Zealand. Our intention is to announce details of this board at the Special General Meetings planned for the end of July.

The primary role of the establishment board will be to get the new Association up and running so that it can be handed over to the first full board as an operational entity sometime during Q3 (Jul to Sep) 2018, or earlier.

The establishment board’s role will include oversight and direction of membership processes, building systems including website and membership administration, professional development infrastructure,  accounting systems, finalising draft by-laws and transitioning members from existing bodies. The board will also be actively involved in developing the operational framework through which the new body will deliver on its core objectives.

Term of the establishment board

The establishment board will be in place from August 2017 for a period of up to 12 months. We expect the new Association will have a full constitutionally elected board in place by July 2018 at the latest.

It’s worth noting here, that although it will be some months before all of the infrastructures will be in place, we expect Financial Advice New Zealand to be operational later this year. Membership will be arranged for members of the founding associations (IFA, PAA and NZFAA) to join the new association and benefit from joint membership during the remaining transition period.

The makeup of Establishment Board:

The establishment board will be made up of 5 directors; one representative from each of the core disciplines (Investments, Lending and Risk Insurance) and 2 independent directors – one of whom will be appointed as Chair.

An appointments committee has been identified and will be sharing more details over the next few days.
